Roy Rieves started building the Rock Cafe in 1936 during the Great Depression. He relied on local materials and used leftover supplies from the construction of Route 66. The cafe opened in 1939 and during WWII it was also used as a Greyhound bus stop. It was damaged by a tornado in 1999 and more damage was done when it caught fire in 2008. In 2009 it was restored and reopened. It is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.
